The darkest hour

On 22nd September 2010 a major exhibition of the work of John Pawson opened at the Design Museum in London. The lifecycle of this website was originally set by the life of the exhibition – beginning with events leading up to the show's installation and ending on its final day, 30th January 2011.

Our site followed the story of a Douglas fir tree from its selection by John Pawson during a visit to the Black Forest in May of last year, through the various production stages, to its final transformation into a series of furniture pieces designed especially for use within the London exhibition. Additional material relating to the theme of trees and timber ran alongside this primary narrative, as well as postings on the exhibition and on a new book, John Pawson Plain Space, written by Alison Morris and published by Phaidon Press to coincide with the show's opening.

As new material continues to be generated, so the blog's lifecycle has naturally extended, with further postings anticipated for both the exhibition and the book.
